When a bride takes on the task of choosing her bridesmaids’ dresses she has many decisions to make. The color, the style, and in recent trends the length. Long being known as a bridesmaid gown, modern brides have been opting for a fresher look to her special day. Both options offer a variety of styles that would compliment any theme, but careful consideration should be made when choosing the length of the dresses that are meant to compliment the most important part of the wedding, the bride.

Location & theme of the wedding
There are many pros and cons with both short and long dresses and when choosing what length you would like there are two important things you should consider, the theme and location. Location is obviously where the wedding will take place and it tends to dictate what the theme, which covers the whole overall feel of the wedding, will ultimately be. With both location and theme under consideration any bride is sure to choose a style of dress that she, and hopefully her bridesmaids as well, will love. Options for winter bridesmaid dresses would be completely different from that of the wedding in summer time.

Traditional or formal wedding?
Brides considering a traditional or formal feel should opt for a longer gown for their bridesmaids. Long gowns give a regal more elegant atmosphere to the event whether it is indoors or out. However, a con for long gowns outside is that it is easier for them to get soiled from dragging on the ground. Also if it is warm out, as most would hope at an outdoor wedding, the bridesmaids may heat up faster than anticipated. So this style works best indoors on a clean floor with climate control. However, if you’ve had your heart set on a wedding surrounded by nature, a long gown will work if you choose a breathable fabric and have the hemline fall just short of the ground.

Dress versatility!
Short dresses are by far the more versatile of the two choices. They make for really cute bridesmaid dresses. With the many style options available in today’s market short dresses can pull off elegant very well, however they tend to give off a more relaxed spunky feel and work better for brides considering a fresher more modern event. As with long gowns, short dresses work well at any location but measure up better outside. With no long hemline to drag on the ground the dress should stay clean through the whole day. The short hemline also offers a cooler option for those warm summer days. One con is that if you choose a short hemline and plan to have your wedding outdoors you should opt for a style that hugs the legs so your bridesmaids aren’t imitating Marilyn throughout the ceremony.

Your wedding day will be a day you will remember for the rest of your life and with all the decisions you have to make it can seem overwhelming. Just remember, it’s your day, and you should be happy with every decision that is made. So when it comes to the length of your bridesmaids’ dresses keep in mind where your nuptials are going to take place and the overall theme you wish to convey and you can’t go wrong.

It’s a question we hear frequently: “My partner and I are going to get married and we aren’t sure which fingers we should put our rings on. What do you recommend?”

gay wedding ring

Most succinctly put, we recommend doing what feels right to you!

We have seen couples choose all sorts of options for their engagement and wedding rings. Some gay couples choose to use the ring finger (next to the pinky) on the right hand for the engagement and/or wedding ring since it is similar, but not the same as the heterosexual symbol. Others, however, embrace the traditional practice of using the ring finger of the left hand. We have also known of folks who have used other fingers; some have chosen the same finger and other couples have each picked a finger and not matched. It really depends on what you want to do.

Individuals who choose the right hand often say that they do so because they feel they have a bit more privacy. We see this often occuring amongst individuals who work for the military or in schools or have another reason for wanting to keep the meaning of the ring more “personal.” Other individuals choose a non-traditional route for political reasons, signifying that they see their relationships as different from heterosexual relationships.

Individuals who choose the left hand often say that they want to make a statement that they see their relationships as equal to a heterosexual relationship and want to be clear with that statement.

Whatever your reason, just pick a finger and don’t be afraid to get some bling for that ring!

Scandinavian airline SAS said Wednesday it plans to host the first-ever in-flight gay wedding in December, and is searching for a suitable couple to walk down the airplane aisle.

“It will be a very traditional wedding,” SAS spokesman Anders Lindstroem told AFP. “There will be wedding cake and dancing in the aisles.”

first mile-high gay wedding

SAS is accepting entries from gay couples who wanted to celebrate their nuptials mid-flight from Stockholm to New York on December 6, with the winning entry will be chosen by an online vote.

The airline said it would pay for the winners’ tickets, hotels and honeymoon in Los Angeles, and cater the on-board banquet, albeit with a special wedding menu instead of normal passenger fare.

Linstroem said SAS was playing catch-up to US airlines, who have spent years courting gay, lesbian and bisexuals in the United States with targeted marketing and sponsorship campaigns.

The ceremony itself would need to take place in Swedish airspace, where gay marriage is legal, he added.

The wedding couple and their guests would have the entire business class section closed off, in part to avoid offending any other customers who might not approve of the mile-high matrimony.

“We don’t want to offend anyone. We hope we won’t offend anyone. It is the year 2010 after all,” Lindstroem said.
